The Secret Rainbow
# 2 in GOLDEN EAGLE SERIES
Share their burdens The Message Gal 6:2
Thinking he was going to die after a plane crash, Howard Burnett thinks back over his teen days.
Barbara Good's Secret Cottage is an adventurous tale of four close friends - with a West Australian setting of contrasting musical events - an eccentric aunt - a shady chauffeur - a run-in with the police. It makes drug-taking the concern of maturing young adults with Christian ethics.
The orphan, Goff, is left a legacy to take him through Medical School, his one ambition. This is on the provision that he keeps out of trouble. When he meets a pop star whose life hangs in the balance, Goff knows he must help out but his future might hang in the balance.
I have tried to describe the Scilly Isles accurately as best as I can remember but likeness to any living person is coincidental.
(This book also has Christian ethics, biblical values, applied to different cultures and tastes, in a setting of contrasting musical events. An eccentric aunt, a dark chauffeur and a run-in with police.)
"He didn't show on his face the agonising decision he was about to make . . . . should he stay with it and risk his career, or opt out, and leave the other crew members to their chosen fate."

Two of the characters that sailed the Golden Eagle were on holiday from Australia. Not wanting to leave them 'washed up' I followed them out to Australia where
two followed them for a holiday in Western Australia.
The West Australian boy grew up and became a missionary aviator. After a plane crash in the jungle he thinks back over his life and recalls the good and the bad. He remembers his part in the wrecking of the boat but most of all her remembers their Australian adventures from Perth to Albany in a setting of contrasting musical events, an accentric aunt, a pop star, a shady chauffeur and a run-in with the police. It makes drug taking the concern of maturing young adults with Christian ethics and Biblical values.
Goff, the orphan, is left a legacy to take him through Medical School, his one ambition. This is on a provision that he keeps out of trouble. When he meets a pop star whose life hangs in the balance, can he do this? "Goff knew he had to help this boy but his future might hang in the balance."
Watch for the third in the trilogy - "The Golden Spiral." The crew of the Golden Eagle return to the Scilly Isles on a mission.
Book Review
In the Secret Cottage, Barbara Good writes about a crew of four. (Yes, they have been sailing off the Scilly Isles) plus the indefatigable Benson, resolving to remove a very young pop idol from the labyrinth of drugs and the clutches of ice-users and dealers. The crew's wily strategies succeed eventually and the underlying message of the Secret Rainbow is unconditional love.
This may well engage the reader of the Secret Rainbow from the formative years to the well-read. Detail of description of scenery and a case for more engaging dialogue could well be made in order to further enhance the contents of the book. A worthwhile read.
